A Basque cheesecake and coffee shop is set to come to Greenwich town centre, replacing the much-loved Joli Vintage Living store that closed earlier this year.

La Maritxu, which already has two branches near Marble Arch and off Carnaby Street, is planning to open up on Nelson Road, according to planning documents filed with Greenwich Council.

Joli Vintage Living, which was profiled by The Greenwich Wire last year, had been open for nine years and survived the pandemic, but closed in February.

The closure prompted a petition from a customer complaining about high rents in the market area, which is owned by the Greenwich Hospital naval charity.

According to its website, La Maritxu opened its doors in 2021 after being founded by three sisters. It says: “The recipe for our Basque burnt cheesecake, also known as San Sebastian cheesecake, has been in our family for generations and is made with a very special ingredient: love.”
