The Now Gallery on Greenwich Peninsula will close at the end of this month, 11 years after it first opened.
The gallery occupies part of a marketing pavilion run by the peninsula’s developer, Knight Dragon, on Peninsula Square, behind North Greenwich station. The building was originally intended to be temporary and was given planning permission to remain for 20 years until 2033, however earlier this year Greenwich Council approved plans for it to remain permanently.
Work has started next door on converting the former Greenwich Kitchen and Craft London restaurants into a new Meantime brewery-branded bar, The Dial, which is expected to open later this year.
The last event at Now Gallery is the Charity Super.Mkt second-hand clothing sale, which is running until August 31.
A new art gallery and studio space, Firepit, recently opened on Cutter Lane, close to the Thames, while the Design District opened three years ago, aimed at creative businesses. A radio station, Loose FM, has also moved into an old shipping container crowned with two glowing eyes.
Knight Dragon told The Greenwich Wire that it had not finalised plans for what would occupy the space once Now Gallery, which opened in September 2014, had closed.

A spokesperson said: “The new use for the Now Gallery space is yet to be determined but the team are considering opportunities to complement the existing offer at Greenwich Peninsula.
“Art and culture remain in abundance at Greenwich Peninsula, with a free public art trail, Design District, and Firepit Art Gallery & Studio – a non-profit collective and cornerstone of the Peninsula’s creative community.
“Over the coming months, some exciting new retailers are coming to the Peninsula, with Cakes & Layers and Kiki & Muimui both making their debut alongside latest new arrival Loose FM broadcasting live from Design District, daily. These new additions join 180+ businesses already working at the Peninsula and more than 5,000 residents who call it home.”
