Thames-Side Studios in Woolwich will be throwing open its doors next month so visitors can see what the hundreds of artists and makers who work there produce.

The annual Open Studios weekend will take place on June 7 and 8 at the riverside site, tucked away at the end of Warspite Road.

There have been studios on the site for 15 years, with Thames-Side Studios taking charge in 2016. It now houses 550 studios covering  “painting, drawing, illustration, printmaking, sculpture, fashion, jewellery, leathercraft, millinery, textile design, embroidery, weaving, photography, graphic design, animation, film and video, music composition, writing, ceramics, glass art, fabrication, conservation, lutherie, furniture making, carpentry, architecture, upholstery and picture framing”, according to the studios.

“It’s a chance to explore the site and discover how our artists and makers work in their space across a variety of practices,” the organisers say.

“Over the weekend we’ll have four exhibitions, street food, eight free workshops and kids’ activities – something for everyone to enjoy.”

The fourth Woolwich Open Exhibition will also take place, with artists involved in Open Studios invited to submit one piece to the gallery.

Visitor will also be able to see the Royal Iris, the old Mersey ferry that was recently hit by fire, which is moored next to the studios. The buildings were once part of the old Siemens factory, where plans to build hundreds of homes on another section of the site were recently shelved.

Thames-Side Studios is at Harrington Way SE18 5NR, and the Open Studios will run from 11am to 5pm on Saturday 7 and Monday 8 June.
