Greenwich Council’s winter lights show, Sparkle in the Park, is coming to Charlton Park next month along with a Christmas market and funfair.
It is the fifth year the council has held the event, with past venues including Avery Hill Park and Well Hall Pleasaunce in Eltham and Maryon Park in Charlton.
This year Charlton House will be involved too, with events taking place inside the Georgian mansion.
Performances from local schools and community choirs will also take place at the event, which runs from 4.30pm to 9pm from Thursday November 28 to Sunday December 1. A “quiet hour” with no flashing lights, less noise and reduced numbers will run from 4.30pm to 5.30pm on Sunday.
The event – which is being run by the team behind the Greenwich and Docklands International Festival – will not be ticketed. Organisers have warned that there may be queueing at busy times, particularly on the Saturday evening.
After this year Sparkle in the Park is likely to be held every other year, as part of the package of cuts approved by councillors in the spring.
The council has also confirmed that there will be Christmas light switch-on events in Eltham on Saturday November 16 and Woolwich on Saturday November 23, while the traditional Greenwich town centre lantern parade will take place from 4pm on Thursday November 23.
