London’s local news scene has received its biggest blow in years this week with the announcement that the Evening Standard is to close its nightly print edition. But what can we do to make sure local news in London survives and thrives?

We’re teaming up with other independent news outlets to hold an event at Goldsmiths University in New Cross on Tuesday June 4 – and you’re invited to join us.

The Greenwich Wire’s founder Darryl Chamberlain will be speaking at the event, as will David Floyd of Social Spider, which publishes newspapers in Barnet, Enfield, Haringey, Newham and Waltham Forest, and Tabitha Stapely, who founded Social Streets, which publishes titles in Tower Hamlets. Others will be there too.

It’s part of Indie News Week – a celebration of the UK’s independent news providers held by the Public Interest News Foundation.

We’ll be at Goldsmiths as it has a long history of teaching journalism, but now finds itself in what is one of the most poorly-covered areas of the country for local news.

So please join us for London’s local news crisis – how indies can make it better at 5.30pm on Tuesday. You can get free tickets via Eventbrite.
