Secret Cinema is planning to move into the Greenwich Peninsula after 18 years of staging immersive film shows at different locations across London.
The company hopes to open the doors of its new home by the Thames by the end of year.
Secret Cinema has produced shows for up to 1.5 million people around the world, including Grease: The Immersive Movie Musical, and productions based around Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Dirty Dancing, Stranger Things and Casino Royale.
Like the nearby Troubadour theatre, which was given the green light by Greenwich Council earlier this year, Secret Cinema would be in place for up to ten years, on a site that is earmarked for development in the future. The venue is subject to planning permission being granted.

Merritt Baer, the artistic director and producer of Secret Cinema, said: “Greenwich Peninsula is the perfect location for Secret Cinema’s long-term flagship home. We are committed to bringing world-class immersive experiences to London audiences and are thrilled to work with local businesses and partners to make this happen.
“Secret Cinema is a curator of lasting memories and epic experiences, trailblazing the future of entertainment. We are looking forward to breaking ground on this venue and continuing to bring entertainment’s most loved stories to life.”
Laura Flanagan, the director of Greenwich Peninsula for its developer, Knight Dragon, said: “We’re proud to see another ambitious, globally recognised brand choose Greenwich Peninsula for its next chapter and look forward to the energy it will bring to the neighbourhood.”
