Zip wires could be coming to Danson Park after the outdoor adventure company Go Ape applied for permission to build a high ropes course.
Go Ape, which already operates courses at Alexandra Palace and Battersea Park, plans to install the course in woodland to the north and west of the park in Bexleyheath.
A changing room building would be adapted to become a reception and staff room, with a shipping container to be placed in the woodland as a storeoom.
In documents submitted to Bexley Council, Go Ape said that its course would only take up 3 per cent of the park and because most of it was well above ground, it would not affect other people’s use of the park.

A “unique, chainsaw-carved” wooden ape would greet visitors, who would arrive for a “treetop challenge” lasting 60 or 90 minutes, or a “treetop experience” aimed at groups, which lasts tree hours. The courses are designed to be suitable for both adults and children.
Go Ape says the presence of its staff would help deter antisocial behaviour in the park, and the course would “promote the borough’s visitor economy and heritage assets, particularly Danson Mansion”.
Danson Park, which marked its centenary as a public park this year, is Grade II-listed and is set around Danson House, an 18th century mansion, and lake.
More details about Go Ape’s plans are on the Bexley Council planning website. Comments need to be sent to the council by Tuesday.
