Charlton Athletic fans scrambled to get tickets on Sunday morning after seats for the club’s play-off semi-final against Wycombe Wanderers went on sale.
Fans were initially greeted with waiting times of more than an hour on the club’s website, although this dropped quickly as the wait went on.
However, many faced problems reserving their season-ticket seats after facing unclear instructions and the system crashing early in the sales window.
The Addicks finished the League One season in fifth place after beating Burton Albion 3-1 at The Valley yesterday.
They will face Wycombe in the first leg at Adams Park next Sunday evening before the second leg at The Valley on Thursday May 15. The winner will face either Stockport County or Leyton Orient at Wembley Stadium on May 25.
Tickets for the match at The Valley are on sale to season-ticket holders and remaining seats will go on general sale on Monday at 11am. Unsold season-ticket seats were due to go on sale on Tuesday, but this was later delayed until Wednesday because of the issues with the ticketing website.
Tickets for the match at Adams Park will go on sale on Monday.
Charlton’s rise to the play-offs cements a remarkable turnaround after a home defeat to Crawley Town on December 3 left the booed-off team languishing in 12th place. After that, manager Nathan Jones’s side lost just three league matches and won 15.
Fans feared a repeat of the season’s earlier form when Burton took the lead with a penalty after 13 minutes, but two goals from Matty Godden and a third from Alex Mitchell decided the match in Charlton’s favour.
Even Burton fans – who had secured League One safety earlier in the week – joined in the festive mood, with a group dressing as bananas and doing a conga in the Jimmy Seed Stand.
Jones told the club’s Charlton TV service after the match: “You see the whole crowd, the whole team, everything is together at this football club. That’s a proud moment for me and should be a proud moment for everyone that has contributed to that.”
He added: “We’ve come so far as a group – we’ve got that hunger, that drive, we’re on the brink of achieving something.”
