The Charlton & Woolwich Free Film Festival will not take place this year because of problems attracting funding, organisers have announced.
The annual event had run since 2016, only missing 2020 because of the pandemic. It had been scheduled for September 6-14 this year, but the volunteers that run it have decided to take a year’s break.
“A couple of excellent funding streams have dried up and we understand why this is,” organiser Gavin Eastley wrote on social media.
“They were great supporters of the festival. Other opportunities have changed criteria and refocused on different types of projects. One thing is certain. We shall be back next year, bigger and better.
“Please look out for pop ups along the way to September 2025.”
The festival had used venues across the SE7 and SE18 postcodes, including Charlton House, St George’s Garrison Church and Shrewsbury House.
Last year’s films included the classic war movie Ice Cold in Alex and the Eighties comedy Gregory’s Girl.
A sister festival for Peckham & Nunhead is still due to go ahead from August 30.
