A wildlife meadow and learning centre have opened as part of a multi-million pound project to transform Greenwich Park.
The Greenwich Park Learning Centre sits in an outdoor area of the park close to the flower garden. It includes a dipping pond and nature trails.
The project is part of the £12 million Greenwich Park Revealed project, which also includes the restoration of 17th-century grassy steps on the hill by the Royal Observatory. Money came from National Lottery funds as well as philanthropic donations.
School sessions will be run from the learning centre while Royal Parks, the charity that runs Greenwich Park, says it is looking at running a community programme so local people can “connect with nature, heritage, and wellbeing”.
Daniella Briscoe-Peaple, the partnerships and engagement officer at Greenwich Park, said: “We’re thrilled to be opening the doors of the learning centre and welcoming everyone to this fantastic new education space for schools and community groups.

“We hope this space will inspire local groups to learn more about the park’s history and the natural landscape on their doorstep, and it will inspire people to discover and learn about their environment, particularly as we face the pressures of climate change.”
The new centre is close to the Ignatius Sancho Café, which opened in March and is named after the first known black Briton to have voted in an election.
