Woolwich General Gordon Square
Walk-in jabs are available at the pharmacy at Equitable House

Walk-in clinics for coronavirus vaccinations are opening up in Woolwich, Plumstead and Thamesmead, as healthcare officials launch a new push to get people inoculated before all restrictions end.

One pharmacy in Woolwich is running walk-in clinics every day until the end of July, while pop-up clinics are opening in Plumstead and Thamesmead.

Greenwich Council teams will also be visiting areas of the borough where take-up has been low to explain the benefits of getting a vaccine and to help residents get a jab.

Across the UK, 76.8 per cent of adults have had one jab – but in Greenwich, the number drops to 56.6 per cent, in part a reflection of London’s younger population. 35 per cent of adults in Greenwich have had both jabs, compared with 53 per cent across the country.

With vaccinations now open to people over 25, rates in Greenwich and across London should improve – but there is still some catching up to do with other age groups. Only 61 per cent of 55 to 59-year-olds have had a jab in Greenwich, compared with 71 per cent in neighbouring Bexley.

The Late Night Woolwich Pharmacy at Equitable House, on General Gordon Square, is offering AstraZeneca jabs every day from 8am to 2pm until 25 July. No booking is required, and no ID or NHS number is required.

Pop-up clinics are being arranged at other locations, which are being listed on the NHS South East London website. They include Gallions Reach Health Centre in Thamesmead, which is offering jabs to over-40s on Thursday from 10am to 4.30pm.

First Care Pharmacy in Battery Road, west Thamesmead, is also offering jabs for all who are eligible on Thursday from 3pm to 6pm; while the Plumstead Health Centre on Tewson Road will be open on Friday from 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 6pm.

The NHS South East London website has updated details of pop-up clinics in Greenwich and neighbouring boroughs.

There are 40.6 Covid-19 cases for every 100,000 people in Greenwich, according to yesterday’s Public Health England data, compared with 32.7 in Lewisham, 18.5 in Bexley and 43 in Bromley.

Detailed local data shows a small cluster of cases around the Grove Park, Mottingham, New Eltham and Chislehurst areas.

All lockdown restrictions are due to be lifted from 21 June, although the spread of the Delta variant first identified in India has put this in doubt.
