More than 1,300 people have signed up to a Greenwich Council appeal for volunteers to help their neighbours during the coronavirus crisis.
The council’s leader, Danny Thorpe, launched the appeal last Sunday, and those on the mailing list – who were told the number of people who had signed up on Friday – will be contacted this week to see if they are fit and well and still able to help.
People may be asked to deliver leaflets to neighbours, check in on people, pick up or collect shopping or other items, organise volunteers, offer telephone support or post mail.
Last week, Thorpe said he had been “blown away” by the community’s response to the epidemic.
People can still sign up to the volunteer list via the Greenwich Council website.
In neighbouring Lewisham, Voluntary Services Lewisham is leading the search for volunteers, who can sign up on the Lewisham Local website. In Bexley, sign up with Bexley Voluntary Service Council. In Bromley, fill in this Bromley Council form.
