Greenwich Council’s deputy leader has called for four derelict terraced homes in Woolwich to be restored and brought back into use after a developer revealed plans to knock them down.
The four homes on Sandy Hill Road, which have stood empty for years, would be demolished along with a neighbouring garage. They would be replaced with 26 new homes – three houses and 23 flats – and a shop. There are no details as to how many would be “affordable”.
“I would much prefer to retain our heritage and ensure the homes are occupied by local families,” Gardner, who represents Woolwich Common ward, said on his Facebook page last week.
The developer says the brick development will be in keeping with its Victorian surrounds and the current properties are too small by modern standards.
